Day 1 - He's ready, right?

We were planning on waiting until we hit 6 months before we gave Raffy some big boy food, then we went out for lunch with my dad and his matriarchal girlfriend and she somehow managed to talk me into trying Raff with a bit of avocado off her salad.

He almost took my finger off!

We'd been noticing his gaping mouth and watchful eyes on us as we chowed down for a while but as he was not drinking as much as he should be and was on the lower weight ranges for his age we thought we'd wait it out.

After the avocado incident, however, we marched to Mommas & Poppas, grabbed a high chair and plastic bibs and decided to give it a go.

I have to admit, I wasn't expecting much.  I steamed a sweet potato and blended it, placing down a miniscule amount on a tiny, monkey head shaped pot lid in front of Raff on his tray, then sat back to watch what I was sure would be an eventless show.

20 minutes and a zillion photos later, not only was Raffy covered in orange smush but he was eagerly sucking fingers clean, CHEWING and ramming the monkey in his gob in a bid to hoover up every last bit! He even sucked on his plastic bib!

Incredible!

We have 2 more days of orange smush left but I just know I won't be able to resist giving him a bigger piece of something to manipulate. Maybe a rectangle of banana!  Oh how exciting!

I really underestimated him today.

Roll on day 2!!
